Welcome To The
UK Pirate Brotherhood
Web site

The Brotherhood was founded as a Yahoo E-group in 2002 in order to enable Pirate Re enactors to communicate with each other.

Pirates and the age of piracy hold a great fascination for many people. Although the UK Pirate Brotherhood was created as a resource to enable different Pirate enactment societies to communicate with each other, it has now become a place where everybody with an interest in pirates, and the history of the era when pirates ravaged the seas, both in the history books, and in the world of film and fiction, is welcome.

This web site has been created in order to pursue the following aims.

  1. To continue to encourage communication and co-operation between different pirate re-enactment societies throughout the country so that they can all continue to benefit from the improved quality and size of shows that this co-operation has generated.
  2. To provide access to information that will enable those groups who seek to portray the authentic history of piracy, to improve the quality of their costume and kit.
  3. To attract the interest and contribution of re enactors and history enthusiasts who are involved in aspects of 17th & 18th Century, and maritime life during the age of sail, other than Piracy.
  4. To create a directory, not only of groups who re-enact pyracy, but also of other maritime interest groups, and of groups involved with other aspects of life during the era known as the Golden Age of Pyracy, from the late 17th Century, to the early 18th Century. For the benefit of anyone wishing to contact these groups, either wanting to join them, or seeking to book them for an event.
  5. To foster an interest in the history of the age of sail both Naval and Piratical.

The Forum.

The UK Pirate Brotherhood Forum is a discussion group for all things piratical & maritime. This is the heart of the brotherhood, where participants can hold discussions, and ask questions covering a variety of topics. It contains rooms for a number of different subjects, including authenticity & history, weapons & combat, and forthcoming events.
Hopefully the forum will eventually come to perform most of the functions that, at present, are being served by the Yahoo e-group.

Directory

One of the aims of the UK Pirate Brotherhood, is to create a directory of groups and societies around the country, not only of Re-enactment societies, but of other groups, involved, not just in presentations of pyracy, but also in history, and maritime life during the age of sail. This will enable different groups to contact each other, as well as providing a resource for individuals seeking to find an organization either to join them, or to book their services.

There are currently eight possible categories for the directory.

  1. Pirate reenactment societies.
  2. Other Maritime re-enactment societies.
  3. Other 17th & 18th Century re-enactment societies.
  4. Social & Fundraising Groups.
  5. Non UK Groups.
  6. Bands & Entertainers.
  7. Live Action Role play groups.
  8. Other.

But if your organization does not fit into any of the above categories, please contact us and we shall create a category for your group.

The Directory is not just a list of organization names. Each contributor has the opportunity to send in information about, and pictures of their group that will be used to create a Mini Web page for that group with full contact details, (including a link to their own web page,) and its own meta tags to attract hits from internet search engines.

Contributors will also be added to the Map, and Links section of this site.

E-Group.

The first incarnation of the UK Pirate Brotherhood in 2002 was as a Yahoo email discussion group.
Although most of the functions of the E-Group are now achieved by the different parts of this web site, the group itself still exists, and will probably continue to be used for special announcements.
The Yahoo Group web site also contains links and Photographs from the first five years of the UK Pirate Brotherhood.

The Gallery.

This is a place where you can upload images.
There
At present, the Gallery is still under development, and so at this stage it still look a little bit strange, and as yet. You can upload your pictures into this Gallery, but, for the moment, if you want to show thumbnails of your pictures you will have to create them yourself, and upload them into the gallery. (We are working on setting up the gallery program so that it will create its own thumbnails.)
Eventually I intend to use the best of the uploaded images to create albums of pictures in a more accessible format here in the web site

Things To Come.

There are a number of other features planned for this web site, most of which are dependent on input from contributing members of the UK Pirate community. As material is received, and as I find the time to modify this web site, the new features will be added. It is up to everybody involved in this community to contribute the material that will eventually make up the pages on this site.

What follows is a list of features that are due to appear in this web site,

Pirate Fiction.

Have you ever wanted to turn your hand to writing a pirate story?
In this section we will be publishing stories submitted by yourselves, so if you have a story inside that you would like to release into the wild, send it HERE, along with details about yourself, and they will be posted in these pages for all to see. (Please keep your contributions to a PG rating or less, this is a family web site.)

We have already been promised contributions from two published authors of pirate fiction. These will be uploaded in the next few weeks.
